oustiougov.typepad.com > Street Fashion: Russia

This series is fourth and last in Seattle Street Fashion project. The previous three are Capitol Hill, Downtown and University District.

Strictly speaking, this series goes beyond the project's original intent, as it has nothing to do with Seattle, even United States. The pictures are taken in July of 2005 in Moscow and Ufa (my hometown), Russia while I was on vacation there.

The experience of taking pictures in Russia was surprisingly not much different from Seattle. I asked the same questions and received similar answers. People were as intrigued by my accent in Russia as they were in Seattle - only in Russia it was American accent they picked up on :-).
Still, there were some interesting differences. First of all, almost everyone was more open and friendly. Girls were more flirtatious, boys were more curious about what I was doing. Second, almost everyone wanted to make sure that their picture is not going to end up on a porn site. Seattleites didn't seem to care :-). Finally, most of the people I met were in groups - at least 2, sometimes more. I don't know why, but Russians just don't like being alone :-)
